Denis Matsuev

Brilliant virtuoso pianist, graduate of the Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory. Award-winner at international contests, including XI International Tchaikovsky Competition (1998).

His name is tightly bound with the great traditions of Russian piano school; his performances are defined by the novelty of creative concepts and depth of artistic interpretations. Denis Matsuev is a welcome guest of the world's most famous concert halls and largest music festivals. The pianist performs with the world's best orchestras, such as the New York Philharmonic, Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, London Symphony, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and the Mariinsky Orchestra. Denis Matsuev regularly appears on the stage with the most distinguished conductors, including V. Gergiev, Y. Temirkanov, M. Jansons, Z. Mehta, K. Masur, Myung-Whun Chung, A. Gilbert and others.

Matsuev is the president of the charitable Russian foundation ‘The New Names’ and the artistic director of the Rachmaninov Foundation.

In 2006 he became a member of the Presidential Council for Culture and Arts and was awarded with the title Honored Artist of Russia. Denis Matsuev is a laureate of the prestigious Shostakovich Prize as well as the National Award of the Russian Federation for Literature and the Arts. He also is a People’s Artist of Russia.  Denis Matsuev was named Honorary Professor of the Moscow State University. In 2012 he became the head of the Public Council of the Russian Federation Culture Ministry.

In 2014 Denis Matsuev was awarded the honor of performing at the official Closing Ceremony of the XXII Winter Olympic Games in Sochi.

In April 2014 UNESCO designated him as a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador.
