Russia stages marathon reading of War and Peace (Stuff)
It has taken four days and four nights and a cast of 1300 Russians across the country and beyond to read through four volumes of War and Peace on live TV and radio.
A cast of more than 1000 Russians across the country have completed a public reading of four volumes of War and Peace.
The marathon public reading of Leo Tolstoy's vast classic novel War and Peace kicked off on December 8, and more than 1300 people four days and nights read the novel aloud.
Tolstoy's great-great-granddaughter Fekla Tolstaya coordinated the event, which involved the readings being broadcast on television and radio.
Over four days and nights, 1300 Russians read aloud four volumes of War and Peace.
More than 6000 people applied to be part of the project, said Tolstaya. Successful candidates each read a two-to-three minute excerpt from the novel in museums, libraries and institutions across Russia.
